Momoisland — E-Commerce Mobile App UI Design
Designing the first-generation app UI for a Toronto-based e-commerce platform specializing in Asian skincare and beauty products.
Context
I worked on a contract project for Momoisland, a Toronto-based e-commerce platform specializing in Asian skincare and beauty products from Korea, Japan, and China. As part of the design team, I contributed to the first-generation app UI, collaborating closely with the design lead and development team. My role spanned the process — from creating low-fidelity to developing high-fidelity — helping prepare the app for its initial launch.
Design Process
This project was completed in 2021 using Adobe Illustrator — before Figma became the industry standard and long before AI-assisted design tools existed. Every screen, component, and flow was built manually: dragging guides, aligning elements by hand, and constructing each UI element from scratch. Looking back, it reflects a time when precision and patience were the core of the craft. It's a piece of history in my design journey — a reminder of how far the tools have evolved, and how the fundamentals have stayed the same.

Outcomes
Working as part of a start-up team alongside the design lead and developers gave me the opportunity to experience the entire design process, from initial concepts to final deliverables. I contributed to most aspects of the design, including icons, colors, typography, and recommendations for illustrations and imagery used across the app and website.
Although the app has since been revamped into a new generation, I am proud to have contributed to its initial launch. This contract project provided me with valuable hands-on experience in a real-world setting and helped me further develop my design skills.
